What is a juicing bar?
A juicing bar is a counter where the fruit is juiced or blended in front of you, rather than poured from a bottle or a carton. Ours is a market stall at Wood Street Indoor Market. You order, you watch it being made, and you take it with you.
Do you make fresh smoothies to order?
Yes. Every smoothie is blended when you order it, at the counter, in front of you. We do not blend anything in advance.
What is sugarcane juice?
It is the juice pressed straight out of the sugar cane plant. We push whole cane through a mill and serve what comes out. Nothing is added to it. It is also called ganne ka juice, and in the Caribbean it is simply cane juice.
Is sugarcane juice high in sugar?
Yes, it is naturally high in sugar, and we would rather say so than not. The British Nutrition Foundation explains how sugars in juice are counted. We sell it because it is fresh and because it tastes good, not as a health drink.
What is sorrel drink?
Sorrel is a Jamaican drink made from dried hibiscus flowers. We steep them with ginger and spice, then serve it cold. It is deep red and sharp, a little like cranberry. In Jamaica it belongs to Christmas. We make it all year round. A cup is £3.00.
When are you open?
Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm. We are closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Message us on WhatsApp if you want to check before travelling.
Where is your juice bar and how do I get there?
We are inside Wood Street Indoor Market, on Wood Street in Walthamstow, London E17 3HX. The market is a covered row of independent stalls, so look for our counter under cover rather than a shop front on the street. Wood Street station is the closest stop and the walk takes a few minutes. Walthamstow Central is the next nearest if you are coming across on the Victoria line. If you are looking for a smoothie place near you in E17, we are one of the few in Walthamstow pressing cane and blending fruit to order.
Is this the same as Walthamstow High Street Market?
No. Walthamstow High Street Market is the long street market near Walthamstow Central. We are in Wood Street Indoor Market, about a mile away, which has its own station. Every food business in England is inspected and scored, and you can look up any hygiene rating on the Food Standards Agency website.
Do you sell fresh coconut water?
Yes. We open the coconut in front of you and pour it straight out. A cup is £4.00.
Do you take card?
Yes. We take card or cash, whichever suits you.
Can I order ahead or place a large order?
Message us on WhatsApp. Everything is made fresh at the counter, so a single drink takes a couple of minutes. For a big order, such as one for an office or a party, give us as much notice as you can.
Are you a cafe or a juice bar?
We are a juice bar rather than a cafe, and we do not have seating. Plenty of juice bars and smoothie bars work from cartons or frozen mixes. We press and blend at the counter instead, so you can take your drink out into the market or on to Wood Street.
Why does it cost more than a bottled smoothie?
We cut and press whole fruit when you order it, in front of you. Nothing is made in advance and nothing comes out of a bottle. That takes more fruit and more time than a carton does.
Do you use concentrate, syrup or powder?
No. We use whole fruit and nothing else. No concentrate, no syrup, no powder and no fake flavour. You can watch the fruit go in.
Is there anything else in the cup?
The fruit cups and smoothies are fruit and nothing else. We sweeten the lemonade with sugar. The sorrel and the coconut drops have sugar in them too, and the sweet potato pudding is made with almond flour. We would rather tell you than not.
How do I ask about allergies or ingredients?
Ask at the counter before you order, or message us on WhatsApp. The sweet potato pudding contains almonds, milk, eggs and wheat, and it is the only thing on the menu made with any of the 14 named allergens. Almonds are a tree nut, and we handle almond flour at the same counter, so nothing here can be called nut free. The juices and smoothies are made from fruit, and the lemonade has sugar in it. We work from one small counter and share blenders, boards and utensils, so we cannot promise any drink is completely free of an allergen. Some people with a tree nut allergy also react to certain fresh fruits. If that is you, tell us which fruits to leave out and we will keep them out of your cup. If you have an allergy, intolerance or coeliac disease, tell us before you order and we will go through the ingredients with you.
